Speaker:

, Marcel: we're going to continue

a sermon series that we

2

:

started last week, Become More.

3

:

There you go.

4

:

I like that for sure.

5

:

All right.

6

:

And so it's called Become More in 24.

7

:

That's the slogan of the year.

8

:

So you can hashtag that

because we want to become more.

9

:

We want to be transformed.

10

:

We want to grow.

11

:

We want to be the spiritual,

mature men and women of Christ

12

:

that God has designed for us.

13

:

And so we're studying now 2 Peter chapter

1 and some would call this the ladder of

14

:

transformation or the ladder of growth.

15

:

We're going to be studying

out the attributes listed in

16

:

2 Peter 1 verses 5 through 7.

17

:

And so there actually is a.

18

:

series, uh, handout and guide.

19

:

I know they gave out some hard copies last

week, but on our church app, if you just

20

:

go to the inbox, uh, you'll see a series,

a guide there that can help you understand

21

:

a little bit more of the context for this

letter written by the apostle Peter, who

22

:

was one of Jesus's top friends, top, uh,

protegees, and was one of the main leaders

23

:

in the church in the first century.

24

:

And so one of the things to

recap, we know we have some

25

:

people here that weren't with us.

26

:

In fact, I heard that we have some

brothers and sisters from Taiwan and

27

:

Canada that are in here in the house.

28

:

Okay, is that y'all over here?

29

:

Can you go ahead and stand on up?

30

:

Let's go.

31

:

And we have Vancouver as well.

32

:

Come on.

33

:

If you didn't know, we are

an international fellowship.

34

:

So we have churches and brothers

and sisters all across the globe.

35

:

Welcome.

36

:

I wish I knew.

37

:

Uh, how to say hello in those particular

languages, but hello, uh, so there you go.

38

:

All right.

39

:

There you go.

40

:

All right.

41

:

So we learned last week here is that,

that God desires for you and me to not

42

:

only be converted in Christ, but to

become more like Christ so that in our

43

:

nature and our character, our desires,

the way we think to be more aligned.

44

:

With God our creator and God has

given us everything we need But

45

:

Peter tells us we need to make

every effort To add to our faith.

46

:

And so although God has provided all

he has given us the tools or resources

47

:

Everything but now we have to actually

utilize those things so that our

48

:

faith Our lives can be transformed

and we can become more like God.

49

:

And so we talked about this and we'll

share this real quickly again, is that at

50

:

the intersection of God's empowerment and

human effort, transformation takes place.

51

:

But if you remove either of

these, it's like lemonade.

52

:

If you remove the lemon or the water,

you're not going to get lemonade.

53

:

And so when we remove one of these, we

won't see the transformation take place.

54

:

But when we have those and they

intersect, we begin and we continue on

55

:

this transformation journey and process.

56

:

And so today, we're going

to be looking at goodness.

57

:

Let's go ahead and let's pray.

58

:

Father, thank you so much for the

chance already to worship you.

59

:

I know, uh, just holding back from,

from singing from my voice, just

60

:

hearing the voices was so encouraging.

61

:

To me, and it made me just think, wow,

God, how pleased you are when you hear

62

:

your children singing out to you and God,

I pray right now for my voice to make it

63

:

through, but I pray God that your word

is communicated by the every soul will

64

:

be, uh, inclined and inspired to, to

make every effort to add to our faith.

65

:

We pray in Jesus name.

66

:

Amen.

67

:

Amen.

68

:

All right.

69

:

So let's go ahead.

70

:

Let's go to second Peter chapter one.

71

:

Uh, again, you can look at the series

handout to get more of an overview

72

:

of the context of the letter, but

he says here in verse three, his

73

:

divine power has given us everything

we need for a godly life through our

74

:

knowledge of him who called us by his

own glory and goodness through these.

75

:

He has given us very great

and precious promises.

76

:

So that through them, check it out again,

this, this helps us understand everything.

77

:

You may participate in the divine nature.

78

:

Again, becoming more like God.

79

:

Having escaped the corruption in

the world caused by evil desires.

80

:

For this very reason, make every

effort to add to your faith, goodness.

81

:

We'll stop right there.

82

:

One thing I want to mention as we

talk about this adding to our faith,

83

:

it's not necessarily like stages.

84

:

Like first I got to get to the

goodness stage and once I complete

85

:

that stage then I can move on

forward to the knowledge stage.

86

:

It's more like ingredients.

87

:

If you're baking something,

or you're making something,

88

:

you put the ingredients in.

89

:

So you need all those ingredients in order

for the transformation to take place.

90

:

So it's not, Oh, let me focus on this

area, and once I get to that area or

91

:

arrive, then I can go on to another.

92

:

No, we're all these, we can actually

make every effort in our lives here.

93

:

But we want to go ahead and

look at this word, goodness.

94

:

And now the Bible, this letter

was written originally in Greek.

95

:

And so this word in Greek is Arate.

96

:

There you go.

97

:

So that's my international

language for the day.

98

:

And this word really means moral

excellence or moral goodness or virtue.

99

:

So it's not goodness as in, uh, being

really good or talented at something.

100

:

It's not saying add talent to your faith.

101

:

It's saying add goodness, moral

excellence, moral goodness, moral

102

:

purity, virtue to our faith.

103

:

And here's what's really cool is that

this same Greek word that's used in

104

:

verse 5 is the same word in verse 3.

105

:

When he says, by his

own glory and goodness.

106

:

Did you catch that?

107

:

He has this goodness.

108

:

That's who he is.

109

:

So now we're being called to add to

our faith what he is so that what?

110

:

We will eventually become more like him.

111

:

This is just so cool.

112

:

It's like, God, we've already got

a picture and a glimpse of this.

113

:

And so you need to add what

he's liking to your life.

114

:

And so I started asking the

question, okay, well, what

115

:

does goodness look like then?

116

:

What does this arete look like?

117

:

Well, it means to do what's good.

118

:

To do what's right morally.

119

:

Being moral and righteous in our

conduct, in our interactions,

120

:

and in our dealings with others.

121

:

A good or righteous life in response

to God's mercy in our lives and

122

:

therefore also doing good to others.

123

:

You guys get what I'm saying.

124

:

So my conduct is good because

of the grace and mercy of God.

125

:

And because of that grace and mercy

in God, because of the character

126

:

of God, I also want to do good

to those I come in contact with.

127

:

So living a morally excellent life.

128

:

Now think about this for a second.

129

:

Does anyone come into mind in all

of history who lived an exemplary

130

:

exemplary life of moral excellence?

131

:

Jesus, right?

132

:

Of course it's Jesus.

133

:

Again, this is so cool because if

you think about this, again, Jesus

134

:

models and exemplifies what this is.

135

:

He's the epitome of this.

136

:

So when we think, well, what

does goodness look like?

137

:

All we need to think about and look to is.

138

:

Jesus.

139

:

His lifestyle, his

character, his ambition.

140

:

And, you know, Peter saw

the goodness of Jesus.

141

:

Again, he was one of his top followers,

one of his top protégés, one of the

142

:

leaders in the first century church.

143

:

And so he saw this up close and personal.

144

:

And now he challenges us and

encourages and directs us, hey,

145

:

become more like our Lord and Savior.

146

:

And it's really cool in 2 Peter if we go

down in the letter He says this for we

147

:

did not follow cleverly devised stories

when we told you about the coming of our

148

:

Lord Jesus Christ in power But we were

eyewitnesses of his majesty He says we

149

:

were eyewitnesses and he talks about it

later on the transfiguration that Jesus

150

:

has to talk about the splendor and the

awe and the Miracles, but he also saw his

151

:

majesty in his life and in his character

and in his teachings And so it makes

152

:

me think, okay, all right, we know what

it means to add to goodness, but how

153

:

then can we add goodness to our faith?

154

:

And so here are a couple ways,

and really how we add goodness is

155

:

going to be how we add any of the

things that are listed in 2 Peter.

156

:

So they're really applicable to

everything that we'll study out.

157

:

But how do we add goodness to

our faith and to our lives?

158

:

Well, number one.

159

:

We're going to always accomplish growth

by praying to God, praying for these

160

:

things, but we're not talking about just

a simple, quick, Hey God, can you help

161

:

me be good today, prayer, and that's it.

162

:

Many years ago, my friend and

former mentor, uh, Reese Nealon,

163

:

we were, uh, having, uh, what we

call a discipling time together.

164

:

It's short in our church.

165

:

We call it a D time.

166

:

And praise God for discipleship

partners and, and discipleship times.

167

:

I, I, I just would not be here

if it wasn't for God using people

168

:

and those times in my life.

169

:

You know what I'm saying?

170

:

And so we're sitting there, Reese, and,

and, and he gave me this challenge.

171

:

He said, hey, why don't you go

find out, uh, from your friends.

172

:

Uh, like ask him, what are like three

of your strengths and one weakness?

173

:

So I went to all my close friends at the

time and I asked and they gave me some

174

:

feedback and almost to a tee, everybody

said, well, the weakness, uh, is pride.

175

:

I was like, man, these guys are so wrong.

176

:

No, I didn't, but I'm sure

in my heart I did, you know?

177

:

And so I said, okay, you know, so I, so

I came back and said, Reese, here you go.

178

:

He goes, Hey, well, you know what?

179

:

If you really want to grow after this,

if you want to go after this and you

180

:

want to see this change your life,

you're going to have to focus in on this.

181

:

It has to be something you

really, truly focus in on.

182

:

And when you pray about it, it

can't just be a simple prayer.

183

:

Hey, God, just help me with this.

184

:

It's gonna be more.

185

:

And so then I started to pray

more about it and I learned,

186

:

I was like, it's so true.

187

:

This praying about it isn't just,

hey, real quickly, before I eat.

188

:

Hey, God, also, hey, can you

just help me be good today?

189

:

No, it, it, desire, there had

to be a desire, a commitment.

190

:

And an earnest plea to God, God,

help me to become this, not just

191

:

to want this, but to become this,

not to just deny myself, but to be

192

:

this, you guys get what I'm saying.

193

:

And so for a long time, and

I'll share about it in a minute,

194

:

I started to pray about this.

195

:

And you know what I realized, too, as

well, is that when we pray about things,

196

:

God helps our desire for those things.

197

:

What I mean is this.

198

:

Look at this verse that many

of us are familiar with.

199

:

Take delight in the Lord, and He will

give you the desires of your heart.

200

:

Now, I think you can read this,

and it's okay to interpret this and

201

:

go, Okay, hey, I delight in God.

202

:

He's going to give me what I want.

203

:

Now, we know that's a general truth, not

an absolute truth, because some things I

204

:

want, guys, like that's not good for you.

205

:

But I think it's also, you can still,

and I think it's safe, to interpret

206

:

this as, you know what, he's not just

going to give me the things that I want,

207

:

no, he's going to give me new desires.

208

:

You guys get what I'm saying?

209

:

It's that now God's going to give

you the desires of your hearts.

210

:

I used to desire this, but now

that I take delight in God,

211

:

He's given me desires from Him.

212

:

And I have to pray about these things.

213

:

In order for this transformation

process to continue church.

214

:

Are you getting what I'm saying here

second not only prayer We have to develop

215

:

a conviction This is where it becomes the

desire, but the standard for our lives.

216

:

I have a conviction, as you can see.

217

:

Uh, I need to get some water, but I

have a strong conviction about USC.

218

:

Some will say, Marcel, you know

what, on the, uh, the rankings,

219

:

it's like number 25 or 26.

220

:

Somehow, some way, some UCLA paid

people off and they surpassed

221

:

USC in the last couple years.

222

:

But we'll get that fixed.

223

:

I have a strong conviction.

224

:

I say, you know what, it might say 26.

225

:

But in my heart, it's number one,

and then Cal State Fullerton and

226

:

Chapman, you guys get what I'm saying.

227

:

But it's number one, I have a conviction.

228

:

You can't tell me a thing about this.

229

:

I'm convinced of this.

230

:

And so if we want to add to

something, we need to pray about it.

231

:

But it must become our

conviction for our lives.

232

:

Something that's unshakable.

233

:

It's the standard now by which we live.

234

:

And the way we can do

this is through scripture.

235

:

Scripture plays a huge role in

developing a conviction about something.

236

:

If I tell you, do you have a

conviction about sharing your faith?

237

:

You will probably say, yes,

because of this verse right here.

238

:

Do you have a conviction

about how you should live?

239

:

Yes, and I think of this verse right here.

240

:

So if we're going to add to our faith

any of these attributes, especially

241

:

goodness, we need to have a conviction

that is inspired from Scripture.

242

:

Going back to this time with Reese.

243

:

And he said, hey, you know, you're

going to have to really go after it.

244

:

So I made this decision.

245

:

I can't remember if he encouraged

me or not, but I made a decision.

246

:

I'm going to study out humility and

pride throughout the whole Bible.

247

:

I thought, okay, this would be quick.

248

:

I ended up going on a three year

journey studying out from Genesis

249

:

to Revelation every instance I

could find pride or humility.

250

:

And this developed a rock

solid conviction to be humble.

251

:

I wish I could say I'm like Moses,

the most humble man on the earth.

252

:

I'm not.

253

:

But when challenged and confronted,

I can quickly go, you know what?

254

:

I see that now because there's a

conviction about being this, and so

255

:

I'm quicker to respond when pride is.

256

:

Exposed in my life.

257

:

You guys get what I'm saying?

258

:

And so we have to develop a

conviction if we're going to add.

259

:

And then thirdly, we have to have

intentional decisions and actions.

260

:

I'm going to be good to this

person at work tomorrow.

261

:

I'm going to be honest

to my mom or my dad.

262

:

I'm going to be respectful

to my classmates.

263

:

I'm going to do.

264

:

I might not want to do it,

but I'm going to do it.

265

:

You guys get what I'm saying?

266

:

Because if we just pray, God, help

me and I got a scripture, but then

267

:

I don't have anything intentional,

then the growth isn't going to

268

:

take place the way it could.

269

:

So we have to be very intentional

in our decisions and in our actions.

270

:

Asking ourselves, the famous WWJD,

what would Jesus Another good question

271

:

that God has helped me to see.

272

:

Is to ask, is this holy?

273

:

Not is this a sin, but is this holy?

274

:

Because then God starts to reveal

the heart and the essence of what

275

:

it is that I'm thinking about.

276

:

And what it is that I truly desire.

277

:

Is it to be right, please and

honor God and be like God?

278

:

Or is it to have whatever

it is that I'm thinking of?

279

:

And so we need to then

put it into practice.

280

:

I ask these questions that God

starts to reveal or I get input.

281

:

And then I make sure to follow.

282

:

So let's really, let's quickly talk about

what subtracts goodness from our faith.

283

:

We know how, some ways how, but what

are some things that are challenging?

284

:

Maybe our natural tendency and takes

away from goodness in our faith.

285

:

Well, number one is the flesh or

what some scholars translate as

286

:

the flesh being our sinful nature.

287

:

You know, many times we, we, we are

attracted and desire what's not good.

288

:

Right?

289

:

I know I'm attracted to things that

maybe aren't good for my soul or

290

:

they're not in the right context or

they're outside of my boundaries.

291

:

And so therefore, they're not

good for me at that moment.

292

:

And many times in our flesh

and in our sinful nature, we

293

:

desire really what's evil.

294

:

And the problem is then we give in so

easily or too quickly to our impulses,

295

:

our feelings and emotions and our desires.

296

:

And we make poor choices and

then that stunts our growth.

297

:

And then we don't become good.

298

:

The other thing that I want to

hit on and talk a good amount

299

:

about is some stinking thinking.

300

:

Also from my friend

Reece Nealon right there.

301

:

Some stinking thinking.

302

:

And what, what do I mean by this is

that really, the world's philosophy,

303

:

the world's rules and ideas and, and,

and, and, and worldview influence us

304

:

more than God's Word and God's Spirit.

305

:

And we start to adopt, whether consciously

or subconsciously, the, Society's views

306

:

about life and that takes away from the

goodness that we desire and that God has

307

:

implanted in our hearts and in our faith.

308

:

And so some of the rationale and thinking

that's become pretty popular of late.

309

:

Things like, you know, it's a

couple of years old now, but

310

:

YOLO, you only live once, right?

311

:

So I better, it's YOLO, right?

312

:

That was a big thing.

313

:

Drake, right?

314

:

YOLO.

315

:

You know what I'm saying?

316

:

Some of you are like,

who is he talking about?

317

:

Just ask your kids.

318

:

All right.

319

:

Another one, do you, or I'm going

to just do me this thinking.

320

:

Just do you do me another one.

321

:

Live your best life.

322

:

Well, I'm just trying

to live my best life.

323

:

There's another phrase.

324

:

That's who I am.

325

:

Well, that's just who I am.

326

:

And last but not least here.

327

:

Well, that's my truth.

328

:

You know, in a very limited, very limited

way, these things can be right, accurate

329

:

and helpful in a very limited way.

330

:

But overall, this is the

antithesis of Jesus and being good.

331

:

Because all of these things are about

me, I, and what I feel, and what I think.

332

:

Not the Bible, not God, not goodness.

333

:

And here's the problem,

if we're gonna be honest.

334

:

I don't want to be a politician,

I want to be a prophet.

335

:

Amen?

336

:

Some of this thinking has influenced

several of us here in the congregation.

337

:

It's infiltrated the church and we don't

go out and consciously say, yeah, I'm

338

:

just all about that YOLO life or I'm

just going to do me, forget Christ.

339

:

We don't say that consciously,

but subconsciously, that's

340

:

the way we're living.

341

:

And we make decisions

based on this thinking.

342

:

And so being good and being holy,

it's not appealing, nor is it honored.

343

:

So we say, you know what,

I'm a talk and cuss.

344

:

The way I want to.

345

:

Speak however I want to.

346

:

I'm going to dress however

I want to and feel.

347

:

I'm going to hold a grudge

and I'm going to get even.

348

:

I'm going to seek to get from this

relationship as opposed to seeking

349

:

to give in this relationship because

that's what I think and feel.

350

:

Again, it might not be consciously.

351

:

We might not say that out loud, but

in our hearts, that's what's going on.

352

:

Brethren and sisters, this is ungodly.

353

:

This subtracts, it removes the

goodness of Christ in our lives.

354

:

It is the opposite of goodness.

355

:

Therefore, it is the opposite of Jesus.

356

:

And what happens again when we have

this mentality, when challenged or

357

:

confronted about this, we get upset.

358

:

We get offended.

359

:

We get defensive.

360

:

How dare you?

361

:

Who are you?

362

:

And we push away and we cancel

these people in our lives with

363

:

humanistic arguments and logic.

364

:

Not with scripture.

365

:

You don't know what you're talking about.

366

:

That's just your opinion.

367

:

What, what, what?

368

:

Oh, this is what I feel.

369

:

This is what I think.

370

:

This is my truth.

371

:

Jesus didn't talk about

truth being subjective.

372

:

He says He is the truth.

373

:

He is the life and He is the way.

374

:

And so brothers and sisters, if we're

going to add to our faith goodness,

375

:

then we need to recognize what's

taking away the goodness from our life.

376

:

And once we acknowledge it, and just

accept, you know what, this has been me,

377

:

or it has been me in some degree, or I

had this subconsciously, this thinking,

378

:

acknowledge it, because if you acknowledge

it, then you can repent from it.

379

:

So we have to acknowledge it.

380

:

And say, you know what, yes.

381

:

But deep down, I want to be godly.

382

:

Because of the mercy and the grace

that God has lavished on my life.

383

:

And so therefore, I'm going to address it.

384

:

And I'm going to get help

from my brothers and sisters.

385

:

Because I have blind spots, or I

don't know how, or I can't see it.

386

:

So that they can help me, so

that I can become godly and

387

:

participate in the divine nature.

388

:

Church, are you with me here?

389

:

And I believe every single one of us,

deep down, all of us want to be good.

390

:

We want to be like Jesus,

but we must recognize what's

391

:

preventing us and address it.

392

:

So made me think, okay, well,

what are some of the benefits of

393

:

adding goodness to our life here?

394

:

And so some of the benefits, these are

just some that, that, that came to mind

395

:

for me is that when we add goodness,

it helps us to actually be truly human.

396

:

You know, in our family group last

week, uh, again, it was mentioned

397

:

where our family groups and so these

are geographic, uh, uh, groups that we

398

:

get together, call them family groups

because we want to be a spiritual family.

399

:

And in our family group, Charles Lennox,

uh, we were talking, he said, you know

400

:

what, uh, Jesus, man, he was truly human.

401

:

I guess he's God in the

flesh, but he was truly human.

402

:

He's a definition of what

it means to be human.

403

:

And when we become like Jesus,

we therefore start to really

404

:

live out our true intention

by God, by truly being human.

405

:

I thought, man, that's really good.

406

:

That's a good Thought and insight right

there because Jesus was truly human.

407

:

So when we become like him we become

more of what God Intended so adding

408

:

goodness will lead us to experience

more and more of God our Creators

409

:

design another benefit real quickly

here is assurance of God's pleasure.

410

:

We know when we do what's right

We know God is pleased with that.

411

:

We also know that we feel good

about ourselves What happened

412

:

when you do something, you know

was good You feel good, right?

413

:

You're like, yeah, you know, let

me get myself a pat on the back.

414

:

Now, if you go and broadcast it,

then, then you lose your reward.

415

:

But, you know, we feel good about that.

416

:

And I don't think that's bad.

417

:

I think that's a good thing because

we're acknowledging, wow, something.

418

:

I think this is what God designs.

419

:

We know it feels good.

420

:

And therefore we rejoice because

that's what God wanted us to live.

421

:

And that's how he wanted us to be.

422

:

And we also see our relationships improve.

423

:

Well, we're good to others.

424

:

The relationships.

425

:

And one more thing here is that we're

treated, therefore, with goodness.

426

:

People treat you with goodness

when you treat them with goodness.

427

:

Even people with no faith in

Christ, they can respond to this.

428

:

Now again, this is a general truth, not

an absolute truth that everybody you

429

:

come in contact with will be good to you.

430

:

But we know that in general, when

we live a Christ life, it will

431

:

reciprocate in how we are treated.

432

:

And so I look at this and I go, why

would I not want to add goodness?

433

:

Which one of these things

doesn't sound appealing?

434

:

I want every single one

of these in my life.

435

:

And I want others to have this as well.

436

:

And so what's our response to what

we're seeing here in the scriptures?

437

:

I believe our response is this week as

it was last week, as it probably really

438

:

will be every week as we study this out.

439

:

And that's to make every effort.

440

:

You know, Ramon Diaz was

on here, on stage there.

441

:

That's so cool, right?

442

:

The whole family up here, right?

443

:

Or at least part of the family,

uh, uh, uh, being recognized.

444

:

But we're in our family group

on Wednesday, and Ramon, uh,

445

:

he used to be a wrestler.

446

:

And, uh, we're talking

like legit wrestling.

447

:

We're not like Hulk Hogan

wrestling, you know what I'm saying?

448

:

We're talking, all the wrestlers

are like, Yeah, that's that

449

:

real wrestler right there.

450

:

And so he was big time.

451

:

He was like going all across the

world and he actually even got invited

452

:

recently to do something international.

453

:

And so he was a real big time wrestler.

454

:

And he says, you know, this

idea of making every effort.

455

:

I realized, man, when I was

wrestling, I made every effort.

456

:

I would watch what I, what I

was eating, my sleep schedule,

457

:

my, my workout schedule.

458

:

He goes, man, I was dedicated.

459

:

I was committed.

460

:

I made every effort.

461

:

And so what would that

look like spiritually then?

462

:

And so we have to make every

effort, not little efforts.

463

:

Not half stepping, but we need to make

a full effort in adding to our phase.

464

:

And so let's get real practical here

for the week here action steps this

465

:

week number one similar last week Let's

pray for the church Let's pray for all

466

:

of us to grow in the things listed in

second Peter 1 every day this week God

467

:

help us as a church to grow in goodness

and knowledge self control all these

468

:

different things God Lead us to this help

us not to just choose this help it to

469

:

us to become Let's pray for one another.

470

:

And then number two, real simply, do

something good each day this week.

471

:

I'm just going to do something good today.

472

:

Picking maybe something real simple.

473

:

You know what?

474

:

Maybe it's, I'm going

to take out the trash.

475

:

I know my wife's been

hitting me over the head.

476

:

I need to take out your, I'm

going to take out the trash today.

477

:

If that's what it is, then please do good.

478

:

Cause that'll help your marriage out.

479

:

You get what I'm saying?

480

:

But just pick something,

something simple, whatever it is.

481

:

Is this the fix all?

482

:

No, but this will start to take root.

483

:

In your habit and in your character

and we can see the benefit of it.

484

:

And as we pray more about it and we

make intentional decisions, we'll see

485

:

us become more and more like Jesus.

486

:

Right now we're going to take

communion and Jesus is the example

487

:

of goodness and his goodness is seen.

488

:

Through the cross in

Luke 23 as Luke a doctor.

489

:

He's documenting what what happened

to Jesus life and he's recounting

490

:

the Jesus dying upon a cross.

491

:

He says something interesting.

492

:

He says Jesus called out with the

loud voice father into your hands I

493

:

commit my spirit when he has said this

he breathed his last the centurion

494

:

seeing what had happened praised God

and said Surely this was a righteous.

495

:

Let's pray Father, we thank

you so much for Jesus.

496

:

We thank you for his example.

497

:

God, every time we think of any

attribute in the scriptures, Father,

498

:

we know that Jesus modeled it.

499

:

And we're so grateful that

Jesus, even on the cross, his

500

:

righteousness was displayed.

501

:

His goodness was seen.

502

:

And we thank you that he was good

because therefore he could be the

503

:

sacrificial lamb for our salvation.

504

:

Thank you that we have an example

of what it means to be human.

505

:

What it means to be good.

506

:

I ought to take.

507

:

And God, we pray that as we reflect upon

Jesus life, death, and resurrection.

508

:

As we take the emblems that represent his

body and his blood that was sacrificed.

509

:

Father, may we be inspired to give you

our very, Father, may we make every

510

:

effort to add to our faith so that we

can participate in your divine nature.

511

:

We thank you for Jesus perseverance on

the cross and for our salvation that comes

512

:

through the cross and his resurrection.

513

:

In Jesus name, Amen.
